CAUSES OF HUNGER
The causes of world hunger
The planet produces enough food to feed all its inhabitants. However, more than 3 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet.
Why?
The interrelated problems of poverty, inequality, conflict, climate change, gender discrimination and weak government and health systems contribute to the lack of access to nutritious food for millions of families around the world.
When children don't have enough to eat, their brains and bodies suffer. This prevents them from growing, learning and working, i.e. from developing their full potential. Without treatment, severe hunger can kill many children.
But it doesn't have to be this way: hunger is predictable, preventable and treatable. With the right tools and policies, we can save the lives of undernourished children and help them get the nutritious food they need to thrive. We can create a world without hunger, for everyone, forever: first, we must tackle its root causes.
