Income-generating activities
Income-generating activities
They improve the purchasing power and strengthen the livelihoods of rural and urban families who are unable to ensure their food security by increasing their agricultural or livestock production or who are highly dependent on the market for their food security.
They focus on training the target populations, although they are sometimes also provided with the equipment and materials necessary to carry out the activity, or are given cash to purchase them. The marketing processes for the goods or services produced must be considered from the outset. The first step is to carry out a market analysis and a socio-economic assessment to help identify products and services of interest to local trade, and to assess demand. Some examples of Income-Generating Activities are:
- Market gardens
- Bakery
- Beekeeping
- Forges or carpentry workshops
- Shops
- Bicycle repair
- Sewing workshops.
These projects cannot always target the most vulnerable population, at least in the first phase, as they require the physical possibility to work and a population committed to a new business that will need some time to start up and generate income.
