In Lebanon, A Woman Fights for Her Health and Baby
When a community mobilizer from Action Against Hunger visited 25-year-old Amina Muhammad Ali at her home in Akbieh, it was immediately clear that she needed help. She was pregnant, weak, and barely able to eat. Her Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) measured just 210mm—an indication of moderate acute malnutrition.
“I was tired all the time. I had no strength, and even the smell of food made me sick,” Amina recalls. “I could only eat once a day, and I started to feel scared for the baby.”
Recognizing the seriousness of her condition, the mobilizer referred Amina to the Moasat Treatment Center, where she began receiving nutritional care. The team there provided her with targeted supplements and scheduled regular follow-ups to monitor her condition.
At the same time, Action Against Hunger connected her with a midwife who remained in close contact throughout her pregnancy. “She checked on me constantly. She answered my calls, explained everything I didn’t understand, and she made sure I was treated properly,” says Amina. “She wasn’t just a nurse. She made me feel like someone was finally looking out for me.”

One of the turning points came when the midwife ensured Amina’s delivery costs were fully covered through the health project supported by the Crisis and Support Centre of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs. That coverage lifted a significant burden off Amina’s shoulders
“I had no idea how I was going to pay for the hospital,” Amina says. “When she told me it would be taken care of, I was relieved—big time! It felt like a huge weight was gone.”
On May 9, 2025, Amina safely delivered a healthy baby. She continues to receive follow-up care at the Moasat Center, where she is breastfeeding and steadily regaining her strength.

“I’m better now. Not just physically—mentally too. I feel calm. I feel like I can take care of my baby,” she says with a quiet smile. “I just needed someone to help me get through it. And they did.”
Thanks to the support of Action Against Hunger and the Crisis and Support Centre of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Amina received the care she needed—at the right time, and in the right way.
