Exciting News from Tusheti Protected Landscape!
Tusheti Protected Landscape Administration (TPLA) is dedicated to preserving the rich biodiversity of this stunning region of Georgia. Recently, Action Against Hunger and Akhmeta LAG has supported the Administration on an essential journey to monitor and safeguard the diverse flora and fauna that call Tusheti home.
Thanks to the TPLA gaining support from the Akhmeta LAG grant competition, they have made significant strides in their conservation efforts. This grant has enabled the acquisition of biodiversity monitoring equipment, including photo traps, cameras, and shoulder-mounted cameras for rangers when on patrol.
The dedicated team has strategically placed these photo traps in the strict protection zones of Tusheti at the start of the season. However, some remote areas lack telephone reception, making it challenging to receive real-time photos. Despite this, the diligent photo trappers managed to capture an incredible sight of Georgia's Wild Goat! Capra aegagrus– which is on Georgia's 'Red List' of Threatened Species. These majestic creatures are endangered and are a protected species. Tusheti is playing a vital role in their conservation and breeding today.
But that's not all! The cameras aren't just for scientific purposes; they also serve our public relations and tourism specialists, allowing us to share the breathtaking beauty of Tusheti with the world. You can find these remarkable photos right here on their Facebook page!
And let's not forget about the dedicated rangers who patrol the area. With the help of shoulder cameras they're the first line of defense in safeguarding this pristine landscape.
“Akhmeta LAG has been a crucial supporter of our endeavors, and we're thrilled to have the backing of Action Against Hunger” - says Head of TPLA, Lado Kakhoidze.
The project was funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation under the project "Improving local governance through inclusive development approaches."
